Towards the beginning of November, we celebrated St. Martin. This year we were able to participate in our town parade, which was a lot of fun. Last year we were in the Guest House and we didn't really know what to expect. Norah made a little lantern in her Kabblegrupa (German type playgroup) and Adeline made her lantern at school. It was so cute have their homemade ones, instead of the store bought ones. We fit in a little more with the community :) It is so nice having 2 American friends in our little town. We were all able to meet up and celebrate together.
We started off the night by meeting up with the Petersons and walked towards the center of town where the action was going to start.
We had to wait a little bit before the parade started
Once the Parade started, St. Martin led and everyone followed through the town

The parade led us to a grassy area where they acted out the meaning of Martinstag. Basically St. Martin was on his horse and came upon a "homeless" man that was cold. He ripped his red cape in half and shared it with him.
After the reenactment, the parade led us to a huge bonfire. Not sure what the meaning of the bonfire was, but the kids liked it and it kept us warm for a second
After that, we headed over to some sort of a main town building where all the kids were able to bring a ticket that we bought and give it to St. Martin in exchange for a man bread.
