In February Adeline attended one of her best friend Mary's birthday party at the Bowling Alley. Adeline is obsessed with birthday parties right now and absolutely could not wait to go. I think her favorite parts are the cake and watching opening presents.
Then there was my birthday... which is when I did my last post on "no more". It was a little bit of an emotional not so fun birthday, however we were able to go out to dinner once our kids went to bed, so that saved the day. Our neighbors came over and watched TV at our house so we could escape :)
This is a funny picture b/c Adeline has chocolate all over her face from eating the frosting and Norah looks like such a scrub. So funny.
Here are some random pictures taken throughout the month. The girls have been extremely cute and full of personality. They are playing together a lot more and I bet will be best friends soon. Norah is hilarious and decided that she will do a cheesy smile anytime she sees the camera pointing at her. It makes me laugh every time. Norah also LOVES to accessorize and I aways find her with someones shoes on, or a headband, glasses, you name it.

And then came Adeline's sickness that began last Friday. She was completely fine and normal all morning and Abe had taken her out to pick up some bread. On the way home she fell asleep in her carseat and was super grumpy when she woke up. She immediately complained that her tummy hurt and just laid on the ground. Within an hour she was throwing up. She threw up a couple times more and spent most of the next day sleeping on the couch, had no energy and was grumpy. Shortly after we put her to bed Saturday night we heard her crying and Abe knew exactly what happened as he was walking up the stairs because he could smell it... Diarrhea. It was everywhere! Gross. We were up several times again that night and in the morning we awoke to adeline throwing up AGAIN! Poor thing was just laying on the ground and said she couldn't walk. By this time I knew she needed to get to the doctor because it was Sunday and she really hadn't eaten or drank anything since Friday afternoon. Plus she is a little Waif, so that doesn't really help her. So we were off to the ER after making a confirming phone call to our doctor.
I spent over 7 hours with Adeline in the ER and she was miserable. They had immediately put her on an IV and some anti-nausea medication. She actually slept most of the time but had two #2 accidents in which she didn't even realize because she had no control... and it was liquid. I desperately tried to talk her into wearing a pull up but she is a stubborn little thing and would not agree. At first they thought she would just need to be there for a couple hours on the IV, but her blood results came back and her sugar levels had completely plummeted. They couldn't believe she was so sick from the "stomach bug". They then told me she would be admitted to the hospital and *possibly* overnight. She was begging for food the entire time we were there so the finally gave her a popsicle and she had 2.
By the time they admitted us to the hospital, Abe showed up to relieve me for awhile. I was starving had hadn't eaten anything all day and not even a bathroom break because I didn't want to leave her by herself. It was a lot more "luxurious" for him :) Adeline continued to have Diarrhea and they were able to test it. It came back POSITIVE for ROTOVIRUS!! Gross. She must have gotten it from a kid at school or something that was infected and didn't wash their hands very well after going to the bathroom. It is VERY contagious and I was worrying that Norah was going to get it too. While I was at home on Sunday I sanitized my entire house top to bottom. I spent that night at the hospital with Adeline and once again didn't get very much sleep. I think it was 2 am before I finally fell asleep and Adeline woke up shortly after that because she had peed the bed a little bit. She had been wearing her hospital gown and frog pajama pants that she insisted on wearing. When I told her we needed to take her pants off because they were a little wet she completely lost it and started screaming. The nurse came in to help me and it go to the point where she had me hold Adeline down while she took off her pants. The entire time Adeline was frantically reaching to pull up her pants will kicking, hitting and screaming. Since I hadn't gotten sufficient sleep for the 4 nights prior, I also completely lost it and was crying with her pleading that she would stop screaming and let me snuggle and hold her. I felt so bad because all she wanted was to wear the ONE familiar thing to her while she was not feeling very comfortable in the hospital setting. I had to walk away from her for several minutes while she kicked and screamed for Daddy until she would calm down enough to let me get next to her. The nurse was really nice and washed and dried her pants for her. It took about 2 hours, but they were folded nicely on the bed for Adeline when we woke up to change her 2nd pee accident of the night. I tried explaining that she was so sick AND on an IV and therefore had no control of when she needed to go to the bathroom and begged her to wear a dora pullup. NOPE! Luckily the rest of the night she woke me up and I walked to the bathroom with her. She hated having the IV machine hooked up to her. If I even touched the machine Adeline would tell me that it hurt or not to touch it. She was also extremely worried about moving her arm at all.
On Monday morning Adeline actually Ate breakfast and her personality was finally back to normal. What a relief.
Before we got discharged around noon, the child life specialist came to "role play" with Adeline about the "straw" in her arm. The would have been really helpful on Sunday at some point!! Adeline had so much fun fixing her stuffed animals and putting straws in their arms.
Woohoo!!! On our way home from the hospital!! Adeline was so excited to see Norah and said she missed her "SO MUCH!!".
Wow, this month has flown by. I've been more addicted to the news than I normally am with all the devastation going on in Japan and all the craziness going on in the Middle East. Abe sent me an article to read the other day about some parents in Japan searching for their two kids at an Elementary school (ruin). They found both of their kids bodies there. Completely ripped my heart out. No parent should have to search for their child's body. I feel so helpless watching the news. No words. It is making me realize that we as a family need to get some food storage and be prepared if something were to ever happen here. I have always been awful at food storage, so maybe this will help us get our act together in the next year. I am happy to say that Norah never got the Rotovirus and I think we are in the clear. Adeline went back to school today and all her friends had wrote cute little cards for her. She was so happy to be there.
