Yay! We were so looking forward to Abe being promoted to Major! We were so thankful that both of our parents were able to come in town for it and come to the ceremony and a little party we had afterwards. There were lots of great things said about Abe and I couldn't be more proud of him. The kids were funny because they kept wanting to go and sit with Abe throughout the little ceremony. We had practiced the night before with the kids to show them what to do to pin his rank on and I would have to say that they did pretty good for the actual ceremony!
Over the summer Abe went TDY (work trip) to Alaska. He actually went to Shemya Island which is one of Aleutian Islands almost to Russia. Sheyma Island is where the Cobra Dane Radar is located. The current Program Manager for this radar is retiring and Abe will be taking over! When Abe first told me he was headed to Alaska, I told him I was quite jealous and wished that I could go with him. I quickly changed my mind when he told me the entire island is only 2 miles by 4 miles and has absolutely nothing on it but the radar! A little creepy I would say!
We tried talking Meika into riding her two wheeler right around the time she turned three, but she didn't really have that much interest because she could get around so fast on her strider. She could pretty much keep up with Norah and Adeline! We finally talked her into it and it was pretty easy for her to do it. I love how much the strider prepares you to ride a two wheeler. Balancing is the hardest part of riding a two wheeler and she already had that down a year ago. Now, Meika is a maniac on her bike and wants to ride it constantly. We have quite a few hills around us, and she is pretty good at peddling up them too. I'm so proud of our little Meika Moo!
Not long after we got home from Utah, we were lucky enough to have Roni, Maggi and their kids come and play with us for a handful of days. We hiked Helen Hunt falls, went to Garden of the Gods, had our favorite frozen yogurt at Lulus and just hung out together and had a good time. The kids all played together so well and Stella and Adeline were hilarious. They were always dressing like twins and dressing up in general.
