Memorial Weekend: Great Sand Dunes National Park, Ouray and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

After living in Europe for three years and constantly "adventuring", it is kind of weird not to be traveling as much. We were excited to plan a little weekend getaway over Memorial weekend. Our first stop was Great Sand Dunes National Park. It ended up being a little colder than I would have liked, but we got really lucky and there was a break in the rain when we were there. Everyone always says to go the beginning of June or end of May so you can get all the water run off from the Mountains and it is fun for the kids to play in. There was a lot of run off, but it was too cold to play in. We wanted to hike to the top of the sand dunes and the kids were such troopers. We ditched our shoes at the car and went barefoot the entire time. It ended up being perfect weather because we all got really warm once we started hiking and the sand wasn't too hot on our feet (which is a problem in the summer). The views were amazing and the kids had so much fun climbing and then running/rolling down the dunes afterwards. Meika may have peed her pants while we were at the very tip top of the dunes! So fun













































After our fun Sand Dunes experience, we drove to our hotel in Montrose where we met Roni, Brett and the kids. The next day we headed to Ouray, CO to explore.
